The Capital Post-Conviction Project of Louisiana is seeking to hire a paralegal.

PARALEGAL

CPCPL seeks a paralegal. CPCPL prefers a candidate with 3+ years experience in providing paralegal support with some litigation experience in civil or criminal matters, but is interested in applications from all experience levels. The position entails extensive and voluminous document analysis, management and tracking, as well as periodic litigation support, primarily at evidentiary hearings in state and federal courts. Strong organizational skills are required. Besides document management, primary tasks include drafting correspondence and pleadings, records collection, record and transcript summarization, database management, non-legal research and occasional client and witness interviewing.

Computer skills necessary. The ability to travel is required; most travel is within Louisiana. Salary $28,000 - $33,000, depending on experience; benefits and parking provided.

CPCPL is a non-profit law office, established to represent indigent death-sentenced men and women in Louisiana. The Acting Director is Gary P. Clements. CPCPL teams provide direct representation, pursuing collateral relief in capital cases in state and federal post-conviction.

In addition, the office is responsible for securing counsel for all death-sentenced indigent persons in post-conviction in Louisiana, and for providing assistance to law firms who are currently representing capital post-conviction clients pro bono.

The office employs a client-centered, team approach; all staff members are expected to participate at every stage of the case. There is a staff of eleven, five of whom are attorneys, plus two to three full-time interns, most of whom are international law students or attorneys. The offices are in downtown New Orleans. CPCPL provides substantial training to all staff, including attendance to at least one conference per year.
