JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: Fair Trial Initiative Seeks Executive Director

The Fair Trial Initiative (FTI), a non-profit working to ensure fairness for indigent defendants facing the death penalty, is seeking a new executive director. The executive director must have capital litigation experience, management skills, and a firm commitment to FTI's core goals. The executive director's primary responsibility will be recruiting, mentoring, and supervising young attorneys and mitigation investigators in the fellowship program. There will be opportunities to continue working on pre-trial capital cases and to help FTI lawyers in the fellowship program develop their courtroom skills. The ED will also be responsible for working with the board of directors to develop a vision for the future of FTI and to ensure financial stability for the organization. Fundraising and management experience are a plus.

FTI is an EOE; compensation depends on experience. The executive director will be based in our Durham office and will need to be (or be willing to become) a member of the bar in North Carolina.

FTI furthers its core purpose of bring fairness for indigent defendants facing the death penalty by: recruiting & training lawyers and other professionals to assist with representation in individual cases; promoting a multidisciplinary approach and teamwork in capital defense; continuously introducing innovative approaches to the defense of death penalty cases; and promoting reform through public education and advocacy.
