EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY: STAFF INVESTIGATOR AT THE LOUISIANA CAPITAL ASSISTANCE CENTER

The Louisiana Capital Assistance Center is seeking to hire a staff investigator to join our non-profit capital trial office based in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The center handles capital trials from all over Louisiana and does limited work in Mississippi and Texas. In addition to direct representation, the LCAC pursues systemic litigation and creative media strategies in order to expose long-standing patterns of misconduct and other improprieties connected to the administration of the death penalty. For more information about the LCAC, please check out our website at:

Despite recent tragic events in New Orleans and the many challenges the city now faces, the organization now has a broader mission to expose the systemic problems in the criminal justice system.

The responsibilities of an investigator include: traveling to prisons to visit with incarcerated clients and witnesses; locating and interviewing potential witnesses; gathering records and information; organizing and administering the case file; developing family and social histories; researching and writing on a myriad of issues, including mental health; and compiling detailed social and personal histories.

We are seeking an individual who is passionate, tenacious, open to challenges, organized and diligent. Minimum college degree required and related experience preferred. Ability to travel is required. Must be able to work independently and self-teach, although training is provided. Minorities encouraged to apply.

Salary: $28,000 to $32,000, depending on experience; benefits provided. Two year commitment required. The successful applicant will be encouraged to commence the position as soon as possible.

To apply, please e-mail: 1. Your resume; 2. A cover letter detailing: i) your interest in the position; ii) your stance on the death penalty; and

iii) any applicable experience. Sorry, but we are not accepting mailed or faxed applications at this time.
