POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: RESEARCH AND WRITING SPECIALIST CAPITAL HABEAS CASES The Federal Public Defender for the Eastern and Western Districts of Arkansas is accepting applications for the position of Research and Writing Specialist at the Little Rock Office to work on pending and future capital habeas cases. The Federal Public Defender operates under the authority of the Criminal Justice Act to provide representation to indigent persons in federal proceedings and related matters. Starting Salary Range: JSP-9/01 ($41,772.00) to JSP-15/01 ($100,129.00) DEPENDING ON QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE The Research and Writing Specialist provides advanced research and writing services on death penalty habeas cases. The individual in this position must be an attorney. The Research and Writing Specialist writes briefs, motions, petitions, and legal memoranda for review by the Capital Habeas Chief and staff attorneys. General duties include examining, analyzing, and researching records and issues; performing legal research and preparing legal documents; and assisting with all aspects of legal and factual development and case preparation. The final candidate will be subject to a background check as required under the policy now in effect for the Administrative Office of the United States Courts. The Research and Writing Specialist may not engage in the private practice of law.
