OPEN POSITION: The Office of the State Appellate Public Defender is recruiting for qualified applicants to fill the position of Deputy State Appellate Public Defender in the Capital Litigation Unit (CLU). The current position available is for lead attorney. This is a new position for this agency.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The successful applicant will be representing indigent defendants in death penalty cases, both in state post-conviction and on direct appeal. Upon filling this position, the CLU will consist of two lead counsel, two staff attorneys, a mitigation specialist, an investigator, and an administrative assistant. The CLU currently represents six capital clients. This position will have supervisory responsibility as it relates to client representation. Salary commensurate with experience.

QUALIFICATIONS: The applicant must meet the minimum qualifications for lead post-conviction counsel under Idaho Criminal Rule 44.3. Qualifications may be established by resumé. Trial experience is preferred. A commitment to capital defense and excellent research and writing skills are essential.
