OPEN POSITION: The Office of the State Appellate Public Defender is recruiting for qualified applicants to fill the position of Deputy State Appellate Public Defender in the Capital Litigation Unit (CLU). The current position available is for a lead attorney pursuant to Idaho Criminal Rule 44.3. This is a new position for this agency. Interviews to be conducted beginning the week of July 18, 2005, with a negotiable start date.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The successful applicant will be representing indigent defendants in death penalty cases, both from post-conviction cases and direct appeals. This position will have a supervisory responsibility over a Capital Litigation staff attorney, mitigation specialist and investigator as it relates to representation in the case.

QUALIFICATIONS: For the lead attorney position the attorney must meet the minimum qualifications for lead post-conviction counsel under Idaho Criminal Rule 44.3. Trial experience is preferred. Excellent research and writing skills are essential.
