POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Assistant Federal Public Defender
The office of the Federal Public Defender, Nashville, Tennessee, is accepting applications for the
position of Assistant Federal Public Defender to start on or about June 1, 2010. The Federal
Public Defender operates under authority of the Criminal Justice Act, 18 U.S.C. Section 3006A,
to provide defense services in federal criminal cases and related matters in the federal courts.
An Assistant Federal Public Defender must be a graduate of an accredited law school, and
admitted to practice in good standing before the United States District Court for the Middle
District of Tennessee or admitted to practice in another United States District Court and become
admitted in the Middle District of Tennessee within one year. The applicant must be or become
admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Applicant
should demonstrate a commitment to the provision of quality representation to the indigent
accused of crime. Appointment is subject to background investigation. Federal Public
Defender attorneys may not engage in the private practice of law.
Salary is commensurate with experience. This position is subject to mandatory Electronic Funds
Transfer (direct deposit) participation for payment of net pay. Qualified persons may apply by
