Title: Capital Post Conviction Attorney

Work Location: Frankfort, Kentucky; Franklin County


Duties:
The caseload includes both state and federal post-conviction litigation.

Our Capital Post Conviction attorneys litigate in a diverse and varied array of settings, from civil execution challenges to state and federal post-conviction cases, to DNA and other "innocence" claims. They work closely with a full time appellate staff so the cases are "in house" before they transfer to post conviction. That not only gives them the opportunity to work with counsel who knows the record, but it allows us early access to the record as well as a smooth transition of the case.

The Capital Post Conviction Branch maintains an average of 40 clients.

Training:
DPA is nationally recognized for their training and education programs. In-house training is routinely available and opportunities exist to attend specialized out-of-state education events.

Salary:
Minimum - Mid Range: $46,907.28 - $62,144.64 at 37.5 hours per week

Requirements:
Applicant must have two years experience in the practice of law. A Master of Law degree will substitute for one year of the required experience.

Applicant must be licensed to practice law in the Commonwealth of Kentucky or comply with SCR 2.111 Limited Certification of Admission to practice or SCR 2.112 Attorney participants in defender or legal services programs.

Capital litigation experience is a plus.

Additional Requirements:
Applicants and employees in this classification may be required to submit to a drug screening test and background check.
