JOB DESCRIPTION: We seek an attorney with significant federal habeas and/or state post-conviction experience, superior writing ability, and a fundamental commitment to representing death sentenced individuals in attacking their convictions and sentences. Applicants should be energetic and creative, should enjoy working in a collaborative environment, and should have facility in reaching across cultural and other differences. Women and minorities are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants must have graduated from an accredited law school and must be licensed by and in good standing with a state bar. Some travel is required.

THE OFFICE: The Capital Habeas Unit (CHU) is part of the Federal Defender Services of Idaho. Fully staffed, the CHU employs four permanent attorneys, one fellowship attorney (annual position), three investigators, three paralegals and three full-time support staff. Our clients are housed in Boise and Pocatello. The CHU will relocate from Moscow to Boise in May, 2009. Until that time, some travel to Moscow will be necessary.

SALARY/BENEFITS: The salary will be based on experience, and it will be equivalent to salaries for Assistant United States Attorneys with similar experience. The office provides health coverage (presently full coverage for the employee with partial payment for dependents) and a retirement plan.
