ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY
DEFENDER LEGAL SERVICES

The National Legal Aid & Defender Association (NLADA) is pleased to announce the opening of a new position in its Defender Legal Services division. The Associate Attorney will advance the equal justice agenda through the development and dissemination of research, information and resources and through support of the defender membership sections, training conferences and leadership, reform, and advocacy initiatives.
In support of these goals, the Associate Attorney will:

Work with staff to develop and implement an expanded vision for utilizing the Association's web sites, publications and list services to provide essential, timely, "user friendly" research, resources and other information to the indigent defense community;

Conduct research on legal matters, funding resources, policy issues, and other topics of importance to the indigent defense community;

Develop and, in partnership with staff, design and coordinate the Association's amicus program;

Assist with writing and editing of training materials, articles, reports, policy statements, amicus briefs and other documents and publications;

Work with staff, association members and others on content development for various documents and publications;

Work with staff to design and implement training curriculum for annual conference, events and other training activities;

Provide staff support for Association governing bodies, sections and committees.

The ideal candidate will possess a Law degree and Bar membership and have a minimum of two years of legal experience in a public defense setting, as well as three years of overall work experience. Required are excellent writing, editing, research, analytical and oral communication skills, including the ability to write/edit newsletters and articles and to communicate successfully with internal and external contacts. Must have knowledge of and interest in utilizing technology and internet resources to disseminate information. Must be highly organized and able to multi-task while working in a fast-paced, creative environment. Must work as a member of multiple teams and facilitate team building. Must demonstrate commitment to the mission of NLADA, the ability to appreciate and respond to the needs of the indigent defense community and the passion for providing equal justice advocates with the knowledge and support they need to make the right to competent counsel a reality in their states and local communities.
