The Capital Post-Conviction Project is accepting applications for a Senior Staff Attorney for our Capital Habeas Office located in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Office has eight attorneys (not including this position), four investigator/mitigation specialists, one guilt phase investigator, four paralegals and three support staff. Law student interns also assist the staff. Our office is located in downtown New Orleans.

SENIOR STAFF ATTORNEY

We seek an experienced attorney to represent clients sentenced to death in the state of Louisiana in their state and federal habeas proceedings. Preferably, the attorney should have experience in state capital post-conviction appeals and federal habeas corpus experience. Capital trials experience a plus. Strong appellate background and sound writing skills are required; experience in conducting evidentiary hearings in state and federal post-conviction proceedings is preferred. This position includes supervisory responsibilities. Clients are assigned to a team consisting of a Senior Staff Attorney, co-counsel, a paralegal and mitigation and guilt phase investigators. The Senior Staff attorney is responsible for supervising team members and will enroll as lead counsel.

REQUIREMENTS: J.D. from an accredited law school; minimum of 2-3 years of experience in state/federal appellate experience with trial or evidentiary hearing; post-conviction experience preferred; must be a member in good standing of a state bar, and must be licensed to practice law in Louisiana within the first year.

SALARY/BENEFITS: Salary commensurate with experience, health coverage including dependants, dental insurance and employee-only contribution retirement plan.
