DEPUTY STATE APPELLATE PUBLIC DEFENDER
CAPITAL LITIGATION UNIT
ONE CURRENT OPENING - BOISE
OPEN POSITION: The Office of the State Appellate Public Defender is recruiting for an entry-level position of Deputy State Appellate Public Defender. The current position available is for second-chair counsel in the Capital Litigation Unit (CLU). Interviews will be conducted in person.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The successful applicant will be representing indigent defendants in state capital appellate and post-conviction proceedings. Second-chair counsel will work within a team environment, taking direction from lead counsel and working closely with a mitigation specialist and an investigator. Anticipated caseload is three to four cases. The starting salary is between $43,000.00 and $49,000.00, depending on experience.
QUALIFICATIONS: For the second-chair counsel position the attorney must demonstrate a commitment to capital defense. A successful applicant must be licensed in Idaho, meet reciprocity requirements, or be willing to take the July 2007 bar exam. Trial experience is preferred. Excellent research and writing skills are essential.
