ATTORNEY POSITION

(Immediate Opening)

The Office of the Post-Conviction Defender for Tennessee has an immediate opening for the position of Assistant Post-Conviction Defender/Staff Attorney.

The Office of the Post-Conviction Defender represents death sentenced inmates in state post-conviction and federal habeas corpus proceedings state wide.

Position requirements include: Demonstrated commitment to protecting the constitutional rights of death sentenced inmates; excellent legal research and writing skills; a license to practice in Tennessee or immediate eligibility for a Tennessee license by reciprocity (Rule 7, Art. V, Rules of the Tennessee Supreme Court) is required OR any candidate not licensed in Tennessee or eligible for reciprocity must be willing to take the next available Tennessee bar exam. Complex litigation, federal court, criminal defense experience, experience with expert witnesses, knowledge of social scie! nce/psychological issues and capital case experience are desirable.

Salary: Salary scale is equivalent to that of Assistant District Public Defenders and is based on experience. The salary scale is statutory and Assistant Post-Conviction Defenders receive a step-increase in salary annually.
