ATTORNEY - DEATH PENALTY LITIGATION
The Southern Center for Human Rights has an opening for a brilliant, compassionate, and aggressive attorney with a lot of heart and stamina to represent men and women facing the ultimate sanction in the heart of the Death Belt. Experience in death-penalty litigation is strongly preferred, but not required. We are looking for someone with excellent legal skills, a keen awareness of the class and racial issues underlying the criminal justice system in the South, and an ability to establish relationships with people who may be mentally-ill, cognitively-disabled, and/or severely traumatized. The job is hard and the hours are long, but the reward more than compensates. The applicant must be willing to make a substantial commitment to the Center, to the Center's clients, and the Center's work.
Salary: $35,000 - 39,000 DOE, with additional stipend for law school loans if needed.
