For 16 years, the Southern Center for Human Rights has hosted the Frederick Douglass Awards Dinner in Washington, DC, honoring organizations and individuals who have demonstrated leadership in the fight for human and constitutional rights in the criminal justice system.

This year we invite you to join us in celebrating a friend, colleague, and leading voice for justice and fairness in the legal system - Stephen B. Bright, President and Senior Counsel, as we celebrate his 30 year anniversary at SCHR.

The Frederick Douglass Equal Justice and Human Rights Awards recognize individuals or organizations which have demonstrated exceptional courage and tenacity in the defense of human rights and equal justice. Past honorees have included Anthony Lewis, Seth Waxman, Don Verilli, Attorneys for Guantanamo Bay detainees as well as The Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia. Speakers have included the late Sen. Ted Kennedy, Sen. Patrick Lahey, Bryan Stevenson, and Bob Herbert.
