The WBA is one of the oldest womens bar associations in the country. As an organization, the WBA is a catalyst for women helping women and a voice for equality and parity. Since 1917, we have advocated for the advancement of women in the profession and upheld our mission to maintain the honor and integrity of the legal profession, promote the administration of justice, advance and protect the interests of women lawyers, promote their mutual improvement, and encourage a spirit of friendship.

Our sister organization, the WBA Foundation, is the charitable arm of the WBA. The Foundations grant program supports nonprofit organizations that provide legal and related services to women and girls in the Washington, DC area.

The theme for our 2022-2023 bar year is Choosing Courage, Leading Authentically, Being Well. This theme recognizes that many of our earliest challenges remain the same. Since 1917, the WBA has been advocating for womens proper place in the legal profession by fighting for equality, advancement, and social justice. Throughout this bar year, we have presented programs, drafted and signed onto briefs, and issued statements to spotlight areas of inequality and provide tools for advancement.
