Legal services lawyers juggle a variety of issues and representational challenges every day. Clients facing scarcity are making difficult decisions while navigating multiple life stressors and the impact of structural racism, poverty, and trauma.

Cultural humility requires that legal services lawyers meet their clients where they are. Effective lawyering demands respecting clients' power and agency over their lives and empowering clients to move forward once the representation has ended.

Washington Council of Lawyers has established a panel of experienced legal services lawyers who will share best practices, tips, and stories of how to reframe the idea of successful representation from doing what the lawyer thinks is best to doing what the client wishes. They will share ideas for issue spotting, client communications, making referrals, coordinating with other service providers, and ensuring that the client always remains the focus of the representation.

The panel includes:

Tracy Davis, Bread for the City
Faiza Majeed, Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia
Jen Masi, Children's Law Center, will moderate the conversation.

Our discussion will run from 12:00-1:00 pm ET and will include breakout room engagement with panelists and other legal services attorneys for Q&A, tip sharing, and supportive conversations.

This event is free for Washington Council of Lawyers members (join) and members of co-sponsoring organizations, and $10 for General Registration.
