Forced marriage is a hidden problem that can impact the freedom and safety of women and girls in immigrant communities in the United States and Canada, presenting unique challenges for advocates and attorneys. This panel discussion, featuring experts from both the United States and Canada, will provide attendees with an overview of the nature and scope of forced marriage in both countries, discuss comparative challenges to securing protections for individuals at risk under the United States' and Canada's current legal, child protection, and social service frameworks, and outline opportunities for creative responses to empower survivors.
