Pro-Se-Plus Divorce Clinic Volunteer Training

The Pro-Se-Plus Divorce Clinic is a two-part workshop to help pro se litigants better understand the divorce process in D.C. Volunteers serve as instructors on substantive and procedural divorce law during the Clinic. During the first session, volunteers will lead an informational seminar on divorce procedure in D.C. for pro se litigants. During the second session, pro se litigants will have an opportunity to fill out their divorce forms, discuss any questions they may have about the process, and to interact with individual volunteer clinic instructors for more personalized attention. The Pro-Se-Plus Divorce Clinic training is used to recruit new volunteer clinic instructors.

The Pro-Se-Plus Divorce Clinic training will cover: Pro-Se-Plus Divorce Clinic Operations; Requirements for Filing for and Obtaining a Divorce in D.C.; Divorce Procedure; Property; Alimony; Child Custody and Visitation; Child Support; Taxes; and Restoration of Former Name.

Important Information: This training session is appropriate for attorneys, paralegals and law students. All volunteers must attend this training before participating in the Clinic. No particular expertise is required to participate. Malpractice insurance is not provided by the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Program to attorneys who volunteer at the Pro-Se-Plus Divorce Clinic.

Training participants must agree to staff two Clinic workshops.
