The Network for Victim Recovery of DC (NVRDC) and DC SAFE will be offering a tour of the DC Superior Courthouse for Pro Bono Week. Attorneys wishing to learn more about the resources available for survivors of domestic violence, dating abuse, sexual assault, and stalking, as well as those available for all crime victims in the District. This experience is ideal for pro bono attorneys considering volunteering for cases involving intimate partner violence or other kinds of victimization, as it will showcase how survivors access Civil Protection Orders (CPOs) in DC and the areas of the courthouse visited most commonly by crime victims going through judicial processes as the complaining witness against their assailant. Attorneys will learn more about the experiences of crime victims going through these criminal processes and what rights are afforded to them - as well as some interesting facts about the courthouse and its history from the perspective of those who have been working in it for years! NVRDC and DC SAFE will discuss opportunities available for accepting pro bono CPO and criminal cases through NVRDC and other organizations that work with DC SAFE's referral listserv.

We look forward to meeting you and taking you on a tour! The representatives will be available to chat over coffee in the cafe after the tour for any participants with additional questions, or who are interested in following up about how to get involved.

Due to the high volume of cases at DC Superior, there is often a lengthy line outside of the courthouse. It is recommended attorneys arrive a few minutes early to account for wait time in the security line. Alternatively, attorneys may utilize the JM level entrance of the courthouse for quicker access.
