Report Back from Visits to Immigrant Detention Facilities and Sharing on the Power of Visitation

The DC Visitation Network is hoping to start visits with immigration detainees in Maryland and Virginia immigration detention facilities, and we need volunteers! The purpose of the visits are purely social, in hopes that we can provide support to detainees who are either fighting their cases or awaiting deportation. If you will be in DC on July 10th, please join us for a conversation about this project. CIVIC and the DC Visitation Network will be holding an event from 6:30 to 7:30 at Human Rights First (see flier attached). Email Sean Kelly at washingtonareadvn@gmail.com to RSVP.

Visitor volunteers recently toured two immigration detention facilities in the DC area: the Worcester County Detention Center in Snowhill, MD (about 3 hours from DC) and the Rappahannock Regional Jail in Stafford, VA (about an hour from DC). As part of the launch of the visitation program, we would like to provide details and information to anyone interested in participating.
