"Practicing Public Interest Law East of the Anacostia River": Lunch-and-Learn with the East of the River Casehandlers

Topics:
  • Special Programs

** Registration is now open! **

The East of the River Casehandlers group invites all legal interns, summer associates, law students and pro bono attorneys to find out more about practicing public interest law east of the Anacostia River. This informal panel discussion will feature attorneys from legal services providers that serve the residents of these diverse and vibrant neighborhoods. After the provider panel, Imoni Washington of the DC Bar Foundation will join us to discuss the Loan Repayment Assistance Program for public interest lawyers working in the District and the recent grants the DCBF has made to legal services providers east of the river. We will also hear from a former legal services client who will help you better understand the challenges low-income residents face every day.

This program is intended to be highly interactive and driven by your questions! We encourage you to submit any questions you have in advance because there may be areas of common concern that we definitely want to address this year. We will also have information available on student internship and pro bono opportunities with EOTR legal services providers.

Legal Services Panel:

  • Michelle Bonner -- Our Place D.C.
  • Laura Brown -- Employment Justice Center
  • Phylisa Carter -- Bread for the City
  • Mark Finucan -- NLSP Loaned Associate from Covington & Burling
  • Lucy Newton -- Legal Aid Society of DC
  • Zoe Paolantonio -- Whitman Walker Health
  • Jani Tillery -- Children's Law Center
