Best Practices in Employment Law: A Four Part Training Series

The D.C. Bar Pro Bono Program, in partnership with the DC Department of Small & Local Business Development, the DC Small Business Development Center Network and the law firm of Crowell & Moring, is sponsoring a four-part employment law course for small business owners.

The four sessions will be held consecutive Wednesday evenings from 5 pm to 7 pm on the following dates:

  • April 10, 2013
  • April 17, 2013
  • April 24, 2013
  • May 1, 2013

As part of the course, you will receive an overview of DC's employment laws as they apply to small businesses, including:

  • Hiring, Firing, and Performance Management;
  • Employee Compensation and Classification;
  • Wage and Hour Laws;
  • Distinction between Employees and Independent Contractors; and
  • Employment Discrimination

The course will be taught by employment law experts with experience dealing with small businesses. It is designed for sole proprietors, members of business partnerships, general managers and owners of LLCs.

The sessions will take place at the offices of Crowell & Moring, 1001 Pennsylvania Avenue NW. (One block from Metro Center on the Red, Blue and Orange lines.) There is a $25 charge for the series to cover the cost of materials.

Participants will receive a certificate of completion for from the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Program, DC SBDC and the DSLBD.
