Hypothermia Outreach Training

Topics:
  • Homelessness

This training is open to all interested individuals. Hypothermia outreach volunteers commit to conducting outreach biweekly. Each shift is 2 hours long. These volunteers speak with homeless families and individuals, sharing basic information on DC's right to shelter during hypothermia conditions. Any specific cases are referred to WLCH's mainline, where they can speak with an on-call attorney. No follow-up is required.

Our outreach training will cover various topics, including the severe weather provisions of the HSRA (Homeless Services Reform Act), which provide a legal right to shelter in freezing temperatures; the District's Winter Plan (how the District will implement such provisions); and communicating effectively during outreach.

Please RSVP to Emily Uhar by September 19th. If you would like to dial-in to listen to the training, RSVP and she will forward you the information!

If you have any questions about the training, don't hesitate to give Emily a call. Last year's outreach efforts made a monumental difference in the lives of our clients. Not only were families taken off the streets in chilling temperatures, our efforts also led to positive changes to DC's shelter intake policies. Join us!
