Public Interest Law Initiative ("PILI") and DePaul University College of Law are partnering to host a virtual Attorney & Student Legal Answers Pro Bono Clinic Day on Friday, October 30 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. We are recuriting licensed attorneys to participate in this clinic, which will be conducted over Zoom.

Attorneys will be trained on how to answer civil legal aid questions posted on PILI's Free Legal Answers website by Illinois residents needing legal help and will work with students to help them research and draft responses. With a short supply of legal aid lawyers, lower income Illinois residents rely on pro bono attorneys to answer their legal questions. In light of the vast economic and legal implications of the COVID-19 pandemic, this need is even greater.

What is Legal Answers? Legal Answers is a secure website where lower income Illinois residents can ask a lawyer for help with a legal issue. Qualified users post questions about civil legal problems. A volunteer lawyer logs in to the site and then picks from a list of questions to answer. It is like a virtual walk-in legal clinic.

How the Legal Answers Clinic Day will work:
Law students and lawyers will come together to answer genuine civil legal questions.
1) Students research and draft an answer to family and housing law questions posted on Free Legal Answers.
2) Lawyers check for accuracy and readability; then submit the answer.

RSVP by October 26 to Lauren Worsek, Director of PBCSI: lworsek@depaul.edu. If you are actively barred in Illinois, please provide your ARDC number. If you are barred in another state or have inactive status, please provide that information.

  • CLE Credit Comments: Training for 0.5 CLE credit hours will be provided.
