The Volunteer Lawyers Program of The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland in collaboration with the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association present: Housing Law CLE

 

This seminar will provide an overview of Ohio’s landlord-tenant law, covering relevant Ohio statutes, the Fair Housing Act, eviction procedure, and tenant protections available under the CARES Act and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) order placing a moratorium on some evictions through 2020. Attendees will also learn about opportunities for pro bono representation of tenants facing eviction through the Landlord Tenant Project at the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland Volunteer Lawyers Program.

Presenters include:

Barbara Reitzloff is a Senior Attorney with the Housing Practice Group, and a member of the Right to Counsel – Cleveland team. Barbara began her legal career with the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland in the late 1980s. She then served as a magistrate, and then the Chief Magistrate, at the Cleveland Housing Court for more than twenty-eight years. In 2020, she returned to Legal Aid to help launch the Right to Counsel Program. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School, and received her B.S. from the University of Detroit.

Joseph Tomino has been an attorney with The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland since 2017. Joe previously worked in Legal Aid’s Intake and Volunteer Lawyers Program Practice Group, where he helped organize community Brief Advice Clinics and managed private landlord-tenant case referrals to volunteer attorneys. Joe recently joined Legal Aid’s Housing Practice Group as a member of the Right to Counsel – Cleveland team. Right to Counsel – Cleveland gives eligible low-income Cleveland tenants with at least one child in the household free legal representation in eviction hearings in Cleveland Housing Court. Joe received his law degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law.

Lauren Gilbride is the Supervising Attorney of Intake and the Volunteer Lawyers Program at the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland. Her group assists individuals applying for services from Legal Aid and provides advice to many clients. In addition, she works with volunteer attorneys throughout Legal Aid’s five county area to help serve clients. She developed and manages several pro bono projects including the Landlord Tenant Project. She is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University School of Law and received her B.A. from the University of Michigan.
