Emeritus Status in Pennsylvania (Allegheny County)

Topics:
  • Continuing Legal Education Program (CLE)
  • Pro Bono

The Allegheny County Bar Association will hold a program entitled Emeritus Status in Pennsylvania on September 11, 2020 from 12:00 PM-1:00 PM.

Retired attorneys can continue to use their skills to assist individuals with low incomes under Pennsylvania’s emeritus rule. Adopted by the Pa. Supreme Court in 2018, the rule allows retired attorneys to be specially licensed for the purpose of doing pro bono work.

Join a informative panel and learn about the history and purpose of the rule, as well as the process for obtaining emeritus status. Attorneys who have completed the process will discuss their experiences. Attendees also will learn about volunteer opportunities to put their licenses to work, and about the resources available from the Pro Bono Center of the Allegheny County Bar Foundation.

Specific topics to be covered include:

  • Pennsylvania Rule of Disciplinary Enforcement 403
  • Pennsylvania CLE Rule 105(d)
  • Process for obtaining emeritus status
  • Practice tips for emeritus attorneys
  • Pennsylvania Rule of Professional Conduct 6.1
  • Volunteer opportunities and resources for pro bono attorneys
