The Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC) at Pine Tree Legal Assistance will host a free, live CLE for attorneys interested in learning how they can help survivors of domestic violence to gain the financial security to move forward with their lives by seeking relief from joint tax debt incurred by their former spouse. The presentation will explain how Pine Tree's holistic family law practice identifies these cases, review considerations in working with victims of domestic violence, and provide a practical guide to representing a client in an innocent spouse relief case. Relevant materials will be sent to all registrants.

The training will also be available by video conference at these locations:

Augusta: 39 Green Street
Bangor: 115 Maine Street, 2nd Floor
Lewiston: 95 Park Street, 3rd Floor

This training is for participants who agree to accept one pro bono case on behalf of the Low Income Taxpayer Clinic  over the next two years, and join a listserve that informs attorneys of future pro bono opportunities to assist LITC clients. Pine Tree staff can help mentor attorneys taking their first pro bono case.
