Over the past three decades, the boundaries of free speech doctrine have been significantly recast by the legislature and the judiciary, and this redefinition continues into the foreseeable future. This year’s Legal Forum Symposium explores questions how the First Amendment can be adapted to suit the cultural, political, and social challenges of the contemporary world, as well as the extent to which the First Amendment can be interpreted to allow the government to regulate harms emerging from speech. Panelists will discuss topics including equality, false speech, press freedom, violent and harassing speech, and regulation of the market.
