Join us for a discussion with Tony Marino, the Director of Legal Services at the Irish International Immigrant Center (IIIC), and Dr. Fiona Danaher, a pediatrician with Mass General Hospital and Co-chair of the MGH Immigrant Health Coalition about the fight to reinstate the Medical Deferred Action program which let immigrants remain in the country while they or their relatives receive life-saving medical care.  In Boston, over 20 families with children fighting cancer, HIV, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, epilepsy and other serious conditions were directly impact by the ending of this program by US Citizenship and Immigration Services.  Mr. Marino and Dr. Danaher campaigned against the elimination of the program including testifying before Congress, writing op-eds, and speaking with the media.  Local groups also represented IIIC in a lawsuit challenging the termination of the program.   A month after it was first announced that the program was being cut, the Administration reversed its decision and reinstated the program after the extensive advocacy campaign.  Come learn about this critical and life-saving work on behalf of and alongside immigrants in our community and around the nation.
