In celebration of DC Pro Bono Week, the Network for Victim Recovery of DC (NVRDC) is offering its "NVRDC Pro Bono Training: Trauma-Informed Lawyering".

Every client brings their own personal experiences to a case. A history of overlapping traumatic experiences can affect a client's participation in the justice system, even when that history is seemingly extraneous to the case.

We proudly acknowledge the pro bono attorneys in DC who strive to honor the experiences of their clients who are survivors. These attorneys go above and beyond, using their own abilities to amplify survivors' stories and to seek justice. This work is incredibly important, yet it can present unique challenges and opportunities for deepening skills in communication and trauma-informed legal practices.

This training will cover:

    The impact of trauma on the brain;
    How a client's trauma can affect legal representation; and
    Best practices for attorneys working with survivors of trauma.

Attendees will gain a basic understanding of trauma, as well as skills for supporting clients who are survivors of trauma.

Participants: This training is primarily designed for attorneys interested in (or already committed to) DC pro bono opportunities, but other colleagues are welcome to attend, space permitting! There is no requirement that participants commit to a pro bono matter in order to attend. This event is offered free of charge.
