There is a particularly pressing and unmet need for pro bono legal services in family law cases.

Custody proceedings frequently involve allegations of child abuse and neglect.  When these issues arise in Domestic Relations Branch cases, an attorney may need to interact with the Child and Family Services Agency [“CFSA”], the Office of the Attorney General’s Family Services Division, or law enforcement.  Additionally, past Abuse & Neglect Branch or Domestic Violence Branch proceedings or CFSA records may impact your client’s current custody matter.

This training is designed to equip attorneys to competently respond to abuse and neglect allegations raised in custody proceedings.

Topics will include:
•Key legal concepts and definitions related to abuse and neglect
•The role of CFSA in investigating allegations of abuse and/or neglect
•How prior findings of abuse or neglect may impact custody

Important Information:
•Attendees should have basic knowledge of custody law and practice
•Appropriate for attorneys and attorney/paralegal teams (paralegals must attend with an attorney)
