The American Bar Association Standing Committee on Legal Assistance for Military Personnel is offering a Free CLE Opportunity for Attorneys on Military Legal Assistance Issues on Thursday, October 18, 2018.

This program is designed for military attorneys working in legal assistance as well as civilian lawyers whose practices involve military-connected clients or issues. Attendees from all installations are welcome. 

IN PERSON: The training is being offered In-Person at Holland & Knight LLP, 50 North Laura Street, Suite 3900, Jacksonville, FL from 8:15 AM-4:45 PM. 

WEBINAR:  The training is also being offered in the form of two webinars. 

  • Morning Webinar: Current Military Family Law Issues
    Date: Thursday, October 18, 2018
    Time: 8:45 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

    This is an educational program for lawyers on current developments in the areas of military and veterans' law. The morning session will provide a wide-ranging look at family law issues arising with the military client, including the military's response to domestic violence, co-occurring conditions of domestic violence, divorce, custody/timesharing, child support, military pension division, alimony, and equitable distribution. Brochure

  • Afternoon Webinar: Consumer Law, Financial Issues, and Helping Military Committees
    Date: Thursday, October 18, 2018
    Time: 1:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.

    The afternoon session will address consumer protection issues facing our military and veterans that are related to charities, debt and credit, benefits, and housing, along with financial issues. It will also provide an overview of the Florida Attorney General's Military and Veterans Assistance Program (MVAP), and how legal organizations can address the needs of our military and veteran communities separately and through collaborative partnerships. Brochure

    3.0 Credit Hours of CLE has been requested

    States typically decide whether a program qualifies for MCLE credit in their jurisdiction 4-8 weeks after the program application is submitted. For many live events, credit approval is not received prior to the program.

    The ABA applies for and ordinarily receives CLE credit for ABA live webinars and teleconferences in AK, AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DE, GA, GU, HI, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MN, MS, MO, MP, MT, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, NC, ND, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VT, VA, VI, WA, WI, and WV.

    The ABA will seek credit for this program in the states indicated.
