As part of LA Law Library's Civil Lawsuit Basics Series, this class provides self-represented litigants, paralegals, law students, new attorneys, and others with basic information on how to prepare and respond to complaints in civil lawsuits in California courts.

A civil lawsuit starts with the filing and service of a written complaint; the defendant must then file an answer or other response. These are called pleadings, and they set the stage for all that comes afterward in the lawsuit.
