The Stand Down is a one day event where primarily homeless veterans are provided with some of the short and long-term resources needed to begin rebuilding their lives. Kansas Legal Services recruits private attorneys to assist pro bono along with our staff in giving legal advice and referral. Some examples are legal services, health screenings, identification for the veteran, housing assistance, job resources, mental health resources. Clothing, toiletries and sometime haircuts are provided. A hot lunch is also served. This event is held in the Spring in Missouri and in the fall in Kansas. Kansas Legal Services participates in both events because veterans often have legal issues across the state line. This is a veterans only event and the veteran must present their DD214.
