In partnership with the Pennsylvania Bar Association Young Lawyers Division and with sponsorship by the PBA Military and Veterans Affairs Committee, the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, Ballard Spahr LLP and the PBA Pro Bono Office, volunteer lawyers and others will be conducting a Wills for Heroes Program focused on veterans and their spouses/partners on Saturday, June 10, 2017. The event will be held at the the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, 5080 Ritter Rd, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055 with will preparation beginning at 11am.

Wills for Heroes provides free basic estate planning documents to first responders and military veterans in Pennsylvania. Wills for Heroes provides police, fire, emergency medical personnel, other first responders and military veterans - those on the frontlines for our personal safety - the tools they need to prepare adequately for the future. Programs are staffed by lawyer volunteers and are conveniently offered to first responders at meeting halls and police and fire stations. Lawyer volunteers at these events use laptop computers loaded with a software program designed specifically for Wills for Heroes. Using this technology allows lawyers from all specialties to participate in the program. During the events, each participant meets with a volunteer who inputs information from the questionnaire into the software. A lawyer volunteer reviews the draft estate planning documents with the first responder to make sure he or she understands and agrees to the plan. The documents are then finalized, signed, witnessed and notarized at the event so they are effective immediately.
