This CLE focus on the work of Innocence Projects both locally and nationally in cases involving mistaken eye-witness identification. In 2014, the National Academy of Science released its recommendation that law enforcement adopt four core reforms when conducting line-ups procedures. These recommendations were based on an exhaustive review of studies and literature. The Core 4 reforms will be presented as well as additional considerations for lawyers practicing in the field.

Julie Jonas, Innocence Project of Minnesota
Julie Jonas is the Legal Director for the Innocence Project of Minnesota. She has worked for IPMN since 2003. In addition to her work for the Project, she teaches at all of the Minnesota law schools where she focuses on the prevention of wrongful convictions and working with clinical students to reinvestigate cases of potential innocence.

She has successfully helped to secure the release of five innocent men from prison who were incarcerated for crimes they did not commit. She also works on policy issues. Her work was instrumental in Minnesota’s passage of its 2014 Imprisonment and Exoneration Remedies Act awarding compensation to innocent Minnesota exonerees.
