On October 5, 2016, Prisoners Legal Services will host its annual event for National Pro Bono Week. Each year focuses on a different theme. This years theme will be death and dying while incarcerated and will include a screening of Prison Terminal: The Last Days of Private Jack Hall, a film highlighting one mans final days in the Iowa State Penitentiary. Nominated for an Academy Award, the film provides a rarely seen look into prison hospice programs.
After the screening will be a panel discussion with Edgar Barens, the films director, and David Leven, Executive Director Emeritus and Senior Consultant of End of Life Choices NY, followed by a reception.
Prior to the film, PLS will present awards to volunteers from across the state for their pro bono service to incarcerated New Yorkers.
