The Practising Law Institute will be offering a free webcast of a live presentation from New York, NY entitled Human Trafficking in Immigrant Communities: Current Issues in Preparing Petitions for T Nonimmigrant Status. This event addresses the practical challenges faced when seeking immigration relief for trafficking victims and is structured for practitioners who are already familiar with the basic immigration framework for T nonimmigrant status. For attorneys who need training on basic T eligibility, it is recommended that they first watch PLI’s on-demand program Human Trafficking in Immigrant Communities: Legal Responses 2015, available at www.pli.edu.

What You Will Learn:

  • When is the sex “commercial”?
  • Assessing and overcoming inadmissibility
  • Ethical questions that attorneys might confront during the course of representing an applicant for T nonimmigrant status

This program is aimed at legal services/nonprofit attorneys who work with immigrant and at-risk clients and attorneys who would like to provide pro bono services to survivors of human trafficking.  It presumes familiarity with the basic immigration framework for T nonimmigrant status.
