Unemployment Compensation Appeals Project CLE

Topics:
  • Continuing Legal Education Program (CLE)
  • Employment
  • Pro Bono Program/Legal Services Organization

The program targets low-income individuals who are denied unemployment compensation, face an appeal by a former employer, or disagree with a decision of the Department of Job & Family Services. Such matters are heard by the Unemployment Compensation Review Commission. Hearings are generally conducted by telephone, and the rules of evidence are not strictly enforced. This CLE will provide information on the appeal process, timeliness issues, hearing structure, and discharges, along with tips for hearing preparation.
