Crossroads For Florida Kids, Inc. is a nonprofit operating in Hillsborough County (Tampa), Florida that trains and mentors pro bono attorneys to represent the civil needs of children in their dependency and delinquency proceedings. Celebrating Pro Bono Week, Crossroads For Florida Kids will hold two trainings on October 25, 2013 that will prepare pro bono attorneys to represent children in foster care, and to provide extended representation for children in delinquency who have civil legal needs. The trainings are free, and are eligible for CLE credit. The morning training (9:00 a.m. to noon) will be a Dependency 101 course including ethical issues in representing children and an overview of handling a dependency case. After lunch, the afternoon training (1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.) will focus on Important Topics for Pro Bono Attorneys Representing Children in Florida's Child Welfare System, including mental health issues, pregnancy and parenting, delinquency, independent living and specialized teen units in dependency, education, and resources for kids. The trainings are sponsored by the Hillsborough County Bar Association's Trial Lawyer's Section. RSVP by October 18, 2013 to rosemary@crossroadsfloridakids.org.
