The Iraqi Refugee Assistance Project is an organization made up of Law Students and Pro Bono attorneys. The staff and volunteers advocate for refugees to ensure their safe resettlement in the United States. The conference will train advocates and those interested in working with refugees on effective refugee legal advocacy, refugee law, and focus on enhancing advocates' understanding of the client populations. Specific training topics include (1) development in security clearances for refugee applicants; (2) how to interview clients who have experienced trauma; and (3) foreign policy/international law dimensions of the Middle East. IRAP members from USC, Loyola, UCLA, Berkeley, Stanford, and UCI will be in attendance. Pro bono attorneys who would like to work on these cases are encouraged to attend.
