Dean's Social-Recognizing Student Volunteers

Topics:
  • Pro Bono Program/Legal Services Organization

At the October Dean's Social, the law school community will recognize and honor the students who volunteer their services to two important programs: the Veterans Legal Assistance Program and the Immigration Detention Project. VLAP provides legal services to veterans who have filed claims for benefits and have been denied. Approximately 16 students will be recognized and honored for their service to the VLAP program this school year. The 13 student-volunteers in the Immigration Detention Project conduct intake interviews of detainees in an area prison and forward the information to the National Immigration Justice Center which then arranges for direct legal representation for the detainees. We will also recognize Assistant Dean John Lynn and Professor Cindy Buys for the time, dedication and hard work they have invested to organize and supervise these very important programs.
