This off-the-wall - but extremely effective - workshop outlines 27 ways even the most experienced attorneys can (and do) foul things up in unemployment insurance (UI) appeals. These tested and proven methods for losing cases are presented for the benefit of those to whom losing sounds like a fun adventure.

The presenters know whereof they speak. Since 1980, now retired Senior Legal Counsel, Lorin Blauer, served the Department of Workforce Services (DWS) - the department that administers the UI fund. Lorin was Legal Counsel to the Appeals Board and Board of Review, Administrative Law Judge, and Special Assistant Attorney General. Tom Cantrell has represented employers and claimants in unemployment insurance hearings since 1978. Lorin has represented approximately 500 cases to the Court of Appeals and Utah Supreme Court. His win rate is approximately 97%. Tom's win rate is about the same.

Together, Tom and Lorin have seen claimants, employer representatives, and sometimes even experienced attorneys make every one of the 27 crazy mistakes covered in this workshop. While we make you laugh on the outside, we make sure your legal team doesn't make those same mistakes - so you won't be crying on the inside.

After this workshop, your pro bono and staff attorneys will instinctively and intuitively do the opposite of what others do to lose, thereby doing what is necessary to win.
