Defending the First Amendment: Opportunities to Make a Difference With Effective Pro Bono Advocacy

Join Traci Smith and Kenny Jacobs of the Minnehaha County Public Defender's Office at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 27, at The University of South Dakota School of Law, Room 103, to hear their story of a First Amendment, case in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. This pro bono victory was their successful appeal of a protected speech case to the Circuit Court.
Come and hear the story of the legal service to Amber O'Brien (Re: State of South Dakota v. O'Brien, - Cr. 08-34-18, August 25, 2009) by Jacobs, a former pro bono award-winning law student, recent graduate, and now colleague of Public Defender Smith. Law Professor David Day of USD also helped with the appeal.
