The New Mexico Supreme Court, the Access to Justice (ATJ) Commission and Local Pro Bono Committees are vigorously and enthusiastically planning events for Celebrate Pro Bono Week. Sixteen Local Pro Bono Committees representing all twelve judicial districts have planned events across the state with one or more Supreme Court Justices or Court of Appeals Judges attending an event in each location. In connection with the events, Sarah Singleton, ATJ Commission Co-chair, will be presenting a CLE session to attorneys in seven different judicial districts: "Professionalism Presentation in Honor of Pro BonoWeek October 26-30, 2009. A representative from New Mexico Legal Aid, the State's largest provider of legal assistance to low income people, is presenting a CLE course to three other local bar associations. As over half of New Mexico attorneys reported donating a total of 249,463 pro bono hours (average of 62 hours each) in 2008, recognition and celebration is in order! In addition, many community events will provide legal assistance to our low income population as part of the celebrations.
