On Thursday, October 8, 2009, Appleseed will proudly host its annual fundraising gala at the Harman Center for the Arts in Washington, DC. Newsweek Editor Eleanor Clift has been confirmed as the Emcee and political humorist Mark Russell as the entertainment.

This year Appleseed will honor attorneys Jim Rogers with Latham & Watkins and Steve Schulman with Akin Gump who spearheaded work on their largest project this year, Assembly Line Injustice. Their corporate honoree, The Raben Group, has distinguished itself by carving out a significant portion of the time and talents of its professionals to improve the world and the nonprofit sector.

Appleseed, founded in 1993 by alumni of Harvard Law School, deploys a nationwide network of pro bono volunteers and policy experts to achieve positive change in American society. Appleseed utilizes its legal expertise to confront and remove entrenched impediments to justice, equality, and opportunity. Their mission is to protect and advance all underrepresented populations, whether immigrants, disadvantaged children, or the working poor.
