Program Overview: Under President Obama's new immigration policy, thousands of young immigrants under age 31 who arrived in the U.S. as children can now apply for "deferred action", which provides protection from deportation and permission to work legally. This will be life-changing for these young New Yorkers. The need for volunteer attorneys to help register them is already overwhelming and will continue to grow in the coming months.
Training topics will include: Eligibility requirements, risks and benefits of applying for DACA, completing application forms and submitting supporting documents, fees and fee exemptions, clinic intake and exit procedures.

Presented by:
SARAH NOLAN, Staff Attorney, Brooklyn Defender Services
MEREDITH FORTIN, Lutheran Social Services of New York
