"Destination America" is a four-part series examining an array of immigration and refugee issues, from factors that propel people to leave their countries of origin to immigration trends in the U.S. to profiles of individual immigrants. The series premieres on October 19, 2005, and the fourth episode, airing Wednesday, October 26 (check local listings for times), features a segment on Rodi Alvarado's claim for refugee protection, entitled "Breaking Free: A Woman's Journey." Rodi Alvarado is a courageous asylum seeker who fled Guatemala after suffering ten years of brutal domestic violence. Her highly publicized case is at the center of the push for protecting women who flee serious violations of their human rights.
