On May 15 the New York City Bar Association welcomed Carey Dunne as the new President of Bar. Dunne is the 65th president in the Association’s 141-year history, succeeding Samuel W. Seymour.

As a partner at Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP, Dunne leads the litigation practice and is a member of the firm’s three-person Management Committee. He has a long-standing commitment to pro bono, and is dedicated to addressing the unmet legal needs of disadvantaged groups and individuals. Dunne also believes strongly in mobilizing attorneys to become involved in activities that promote social justice and human rights, noting this in the Bar Association’s missions.

Dunne’s own pro bono work includes a recent jury verdict of acquittal in the murder trial of Lonnie Jones, clearing him of all charges and securing his release from prison, where he had been wrongly held for over five years.

Having been a member of the City Bar for nearly 25 years, Dunne has served as a Vice President, a member of the Executive Committee, and as Chair of the Judiciary Committee.

“I am proud to be President of a Bar Association that is prominent locally, nationally and internationally,” Dunne said, “[and] that has earned great respect within the legal profession and in the wider community.”
